Is this number on WhatsApp?
A free WhatsApp number checker. Pick the country, type the number, and see in a few seconds whether it has a WhatsApp account. Nothing is sent to the number.
Your result shows up here, like a contact card in WhatsApp.
Three steps, a few seconds.
- 1
Pick the country, type the number
Type it the way you'd dial it at home, or paste the full number starting with +.
+44|7700 900123 - 2
We run the lookup
The same registration lookup behind our WhatsApp Enrichment API. Nothing is sent to the number.

On WhatsApp, not on WhatsApp, or couldn't tell. If it's on WhatsApp, open the chat in one tap.

What the answer tells you, and what it canโt.
The checker reports whether the number has a WhatsApp account at the moment you check. When the lookup canโt get a clear answer, it says so instead of guessing.
- It can't show whether someone blocked you, or when they were last online
- Numbers get reassigned, so an account may belong to the number's new owner
- Being on WhatsApp isn't permission to message someone. Only contact people who expect to hear from you
Why thereโs a daily limit.
Every check runs a real lookup that costs us money. To keep the tool free for everyone, each person gets 3 checks a day, and connections that hide whoโs behind them are turned away.
- 01Per person, counted across browsers, profiles and private windows on the same device.
- 02Home and mobile networks work. VPNs, proxies, Tor and data centers don't.
- 03A quick, invisible security check runs while you type. No puzzles to solve.
Checking a whole list? Use the API.
The WhatsApp Enrichment API runs the same check from your server, CRM or automation, up to 10 numbers per request. Clean a lead list before outreach, or let your automation choose WhatsApp or SMS for each contact.
Free tier: 5 checks a month with a Mossmoon account. No line or WhatsApp connection needed.

}Checking by hand, without this tool.
Two ways that work on any phone. Both are fine for one number and slow for more than a handful.
Save it as a contact
Add the number to your phoneโs contacts, open WhatsApp, tap New chat and search for the name. If it shows up, the number is on WhatsApp. If it doesnโt, it may not be, or WhatsApp may not have refreshed your contacts yet.
Open a wa.me link
Open wa.me/ followed by the number in international format, digits only (for example wa.me/447700900123). If the number is on WhatsApp, a chat opens without saving the contact. If it isnโt, WhatsApp says the number is invalid.
About the WhatsApp number checker.
Pick the number's country above, type the number and press Check number. In a few seconds you'll see whether it has a WhatsApp account. You can also type the full international number starting with +, and the country is ignored.
To check by hand, save the number in your phone's contacts and look for it in WhatsApp's New chat list, or open wa.me/ followed by the number in international format with no + or spaces.
Yes. Everyone gets 3 free checks a day, with no signup. Each check frees up again 24 hours after you used it.
For more, the WhatsApp Enrichment API checks numbers in bulk: 5 free lookups a month with a Mossmoon account, then paid plans from $15 a month for 6,000 checks.
No. We don't message or call the number, and nothing shows up on their phone. The check only asks whether the number has a WhatsApp account.
It reflects WhatsApp at the moment you check. "On WhatsApp" means the number has an account. "Not on WhatsApp" means it has none right now. Sometimes the lookup can't get a clear answer, and then we say "Couldn't tell" rather than guess.
A result can't tell you whether someone has blocked you, when they were last online, or whether they want to hear from you. Phone numbers also get reassigned, so an account may belong to a new owner of the number.
Each check costs us money, so the free tool limits how many checks one person can make. Behind a VPN, proxy, Tor or a data center, one person can look like thousands, so those connections are turned away. On a normal home or mobile connection it works as usual.
If you use iCloud Private Relay in Safari, turn it off for this site (Safari's page menu has Show IP Address) and reload.
Not in readable form. To enforce the daily limits we keep a scrambled code made from each number (a keyed hash that can't be turned back into the number) for 48 hours, and the yes or no answer for 24 hours so repeat checks of the same number don't need a new lookup.
Yes, through the WhatsApp Enrichment API. Send up to 10 numbers per request from your server, CRM or automation, and each comes back as registered, unregistered or unknown. It can also fetch a number's public profile photo when one is available.
No. The checker answers one question: does this number have a WhatsApp account. It doesn't say which WhatsApp app the number uses.
Now talk to them from your CRM.
Mossmoon connects a WhatsApp number to your CRM, app or AI agent with one QR scan. $15 per line a month, and your first line is free for 7 days.
